This week is a very exciting photography week in LA, there are two excellent shows at The Getty Center - André Kertész: Seven Decades and The Goat’s Dance: Photographs by Graciela Iturbide with a gallery talk on Wednesday night. The Lucie Award, Best of Show, that has traveled worldwide curated by our friend Dr. Anthony (Tony) Bannon will be exhibited at the Farmani Gallery  1/10-08 at 6:00-9:00 p.m.  and Stephen Cohen’s PhotoLA opens on Thursday evening  1/10/08 - 1/13-08 at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica.

Looking forward to seeing Howard Greenberg, who has just celebrated his 25th year as one of the most prestigious galleries in the world. Howard has represented the finest in vintage and contemporary photography, including our icons Edward Steichen, Alfred Steiglitz, Imogen Cunningham, Eugene Smith, Walker Evans, Garry Winogrand, Andre Kertesz, Liliian Bassman, Bruce Davidson and the list goes on!

This is the perfect start of 2008 to get re-inspired.
Hope to see you at one or all of these photography events!

Jill Greenberg at the ArcLight

November 29th, 2007

Kathleen Clark, the great Photo Editor at Los Angeles Magazine, and David Fahey, of Fahey Klein Gallery, hosted a cocktail party for
Jill Greenberg upstairs at the Arclight. Kathleen has an eye for emerging photographers and loves to help committed image makers get their start. Jill has had so much recognition she seems undaunted by the attention.  David Fahey reminded the PhotoTherapists to attend Jill Greenberg’s “Bear” images opening on Thursday, Dec. 13.

Vll at Art Center College of Design

November 29th, 2007

The PhotoTherapist were guests at the 11/3-11/4 Vll seminar.
Enjoyed seeing many of my students venturing out beyond their intense class and shoot schedules.
The images and presentations were very inspiring. A great opportunity to see our heroes’ work and emerging photographers
who are embracing socially conscious images and issues.
Lauren Greenfield’s “Kids with $” was mind-blowing. Her ability to be totally vulnerable, a keen reporter, a master image maker
and insightful storyteller makes her one of our most iconic photographers in our time. SEE IT!

Lauren Greenfields’ dinner party for Vll

November 29th, 2007

Lauren had a wonderful evening in her modern Venice, CA home.
Her home, kitchen, living room, outdoor space complete with modern fire element are perfect. Taking the bridge up to her private spaces and work area was a special intimate moment. Lauren is an impeccable artist, photographer and hostess.
Enjoyed the company of Douglas Kirkland and Francois, David Fahey, Jeff Dunas (who seems to be everywhere the PhotoTherapists are), Antonin Kratochvil, Gerd Ludwig with his signature scarf, photo journalist Ron Haviv + et al.
The green corn tamales and catering were also a big hit!

Lucie Awards

November 29th, 2007

Did you know that PhotoTherapist Susan Baraz, Co-Chair of the Lucie Awards also named the Lucie statue? Since all photography is based on light, the light bulb went off at 2 a.m. at the Farmani Galleryand Lucie was born. Lucie is a derivative from the latin Lux or Luce the female goddess of light, hence LUCIE.
This 5th year milestone event was held at the Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. Attendees included Eugene Richards, Antonin Kratochvil, Elliot Erwitt, Deborah Turbeville , Ralph Gibson and our
friend Anthony Banon, director of the George Eastman House.
Susan announced the International Photographer of the Year Massimo Mastrorillo from Italy. Bravo!
